The Ottawa Centre is comprised of about 90 CMOS members. The Centre holds monthly meetings downtown from September through May.  Our meetings are open to members and the public.  Meetings start with lunch followed by a presentation by an invited speaker and discussion. Occasionally our meetings are joint with partner groups or societies.

In 2020, the Ottawa Centre will host the annual CMOS Congress.  Our local arrangements chair is putting together volunteer groups to help with this large project.  If you can help in any way please contact Bruce Angle.

Outreach activities aimed at high school, university and post graduate students are a priority for the Ottawa Centre. We judge and provide prizes at regional science fairs in Ottawa and Gatineau.

TITLE
:  The Search for Two Lost Meteorological Artifacts

ABSTRACT:  The CMOS committee to plan 50th anniversary commemorative events identified liaison with the Canada Science and Technology Museum as one of its action items. CMOS members John Reid and John Gilbert met with NMST Curator Dr. David Pantalony and his colleagues to explore possible joint areas of interest. The Museum was interested in two artifacts: the thermometer that recorded Canada's coldest temperature at Snag, Yukon in 1947 and the Canadian Snow Kit developed by NRC in 1949
