Boundary-Layer Processes and their Links to Sustainability
The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in boundary-layer meteorology. The successful applicant will develop an active research program, supervise graduate students, and teach a variety of the department’s graduate and undergraduate courses. A relevant doctoral degree in physical sciences or engineering is required.
The successful candidate is expected to pursue research in various aspects of the planetary boundary layer, including but not limited to its turbulent dynamics, radiation, chemistry and/or moist processes, employing observations, modelling and/or theory. Of particular interest are topics related to sustainability, such as renewable energy production, urban meteorology, and land—atmosphere exchange. This position will strengthen McGill’s leadership in the science of weather, oceans, climate, and air quality. It also forms an integral part of McGill’s strategic priorities in the areas of environment, infrastructure planning and engineering, and health, as well as McGill’s goal to be a leading institution for sustainable development. The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences has strong ties with the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and with the Earth System Science program. Candidates will benefit from fostering natural links within the department and with other McGill departments and faculties, as well as meteorological and oceanographic research institutions in the Montreal area.
