This is a summer workshop for pre-college teachers of atmospheric science topics sponsored by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States. Presentations at the Workshop are made by some of the most respected American scientists in the fields of atmospheric and oceanographic sciences. Participants have returned with material, resources and teaching modules readily adaptable to classroom presentations.
The workshop is held at the National Weather Service Training Center, Kansas City, Missouri, 16-28 July 2017.
There are only 24 teachers selected each year, with only 1 from Canada.
The essential expenses for the selected teacher are all paid by AMS/NOAA, with contributions from CMOS and the Canadian Geographic Education (Can Geo Education) .
Because this does not include the travel to and from Kansas City, CMOS and Can Geo Education each also provide CDN$300 (total CDN$600) to the selected Canadian participant.
Previous Canadian participants found their attendance a very rewarding and significant experience.
